Lectio: Mt 1.1-16, 18-23
“Jacob the father of Joseph, the husband of Mary, of her was born Jesus, who is called the Messiah.” Mt 1.16
“O God, genealogies are boring to us but important for historical reasons.
I remember Jesus’ genealogy as recorded by Matthew showed that Jesus was a descendant of the King David - a very important theological truth.
Grant that I may be open to what You revealed in Sacred Scripture for it is meant for my salvation.
I ask this of You who lives and reigns with Jesus and the Holy Spirit, one God, forever. Amen.
Operatio: Reflect on “Sacred Scripture” - God’s words; meant for me and for all; In prayer ask for the grace to approach Scripture with openness and delight knowing God wants His words to be heard and digested by all.

Lectio: Lk 6.20-26
“And raising his eyes toward his disciples, he [Jesus] said, ‘Blessed are you who are poor for the kingdom of God is yours’.” Lk 6.20
“O God, You speak to us in many ways but especially through Your Son .
I remember Jesus gave us the Magna Carta for right living in His sermon on the Plain as recorded by Luke and in His sermon on the Mount as recorded by Matthew.
Grant that I may strive to live in accordance with the spirit of the Beatitudes for it is Your way of blessedness both now and forever.
I ask this of You who lives and reigns with Jesus and the Holy Spirit, one God, forever. Amen.
Operatio: Reflect on the “Beatitudes” - Jesus was not extolling an poverty and hun ger and thirst as an economic goal; rather He was extolling attitudes for Christian living in this life. Resolve to pray always to have the right attitudes by living in accordance with the Beatitudes.

“In those days he [Jesus] departed for the mountain to pray, and he spend the whole night in prayer to God.” Lk 6.12
“ O God, You want us to stay in touch with You for You are the source of wisdom, peace and our strength.
I remember Jesus often spent a long time in prayer to You - He had a basic need to do so!
Grant that I may follow the example of Jesus and pray to You as an important part of my daily spirituality.
I ask this of You who lives and reigns with Jesus and the Holy Spirit, one God, forever. Amen.
Operatio: Reflect on “Prayer” - it is communion with God, it is the lifting of our hearts and minds to God - we can make our whole day and everything we do each day - a prayer by simply saying the Morning Offering. Resolve to make the Morning Offering every day.

Lectio: Lk 6.6-11
“Then Jesus said to them, ‘I ask you is it lawful to do good on the Sabbath rather than to do evil, to save a life rather than to destroy it’?” Lk 6.9
“ O God, You know we can be so perverse in our own learning and in discerning what You want of us for You want love not rigidity as our response to You.
I remember Jesus healed on the Sabbath to make it clear what the religious leader considered work and forbidden - was proper for it is what love requires.
Grant that I may use the Sabbath as You intended as a day of rest from secular activities and for pursuing God-centered activities but with flexibility and with love.
I ask this of You who lives and reigns with Jesus and the Holy Spirit, one God, forever. Amen.
Operatio: Reflect on “Keeping holy the Sabbath” - it is a gift of God, intended for our regeneration, to keep us focused on God, to do activities that benefit us in mind, body and spirit for we cannot love others if we do not love ourselves. In prayer ask for the grace to use the Sabbath rest as God intended.

“For where two or three are gathered in my [Jesus] name, there am I in the midst of them. Mt 18.20
“ O God, how wonderfully You treat us.
I remember that is only two are gathered in Jesus’ name, He promised to be in the midst of them - how awesome! How joyful!
Grant that I may always be mindful of Jesus’ presence when I pray with others.
I ask this of You who lives and reigns with Jesus and the Holy Spirit, one God, forever. Amen.
Operatio: Reflect on “in the midst of them”- first, need to gather in Jesus’ name; second, need to do so in prayer; third, need to be mindful of Him; fourth, His presence assures us that our prayers are heard and of their efficacy. How great, for so little effort on our part!

“Then he [Jesus] said to them [Pharisees], ‘The Son of Man is Lord of the Sabbath’.”
Lk 5.5
“ O God, You gave us the commandments of “Do’s” and “Don’ts” so as to guide us in the way of right living - and they are true guides.
I remember Jesus also revealed another law to us - the law of love which sums up all the laws and the prophets.
Grant that I may see to live rightly that in applying Your commandments, that in times of conflict, love trumps.
I ask this of You who lives and reigns with Jesus and the Holy Spirit, one God, forever. Amen.
Operatio: Reflect on the “Ten Commandments” - All but two are “Don’t’s.” They govern areas where “love” does not trump. But in the areas of keeping the Sabbath and honoring - they do not always bind and are actions can be modified for reasons of “love.”

“[And] no one who has been drinking old wine desires new, for he says, ‘The old is good’.” Lk 5.39
“ O God, You k now we are complacent and creatures of habit - and You challenge us to be more open.
I remember in response to the Pharisees and Scribes question about fasting, Jesus told them in effect that the kingdom of God was ushered in by Him - but they were content with simply holding onto their habit of fasting without realizing why they were doing it - and sadly, they missed out on a great and wonderful message.
Grant that I may be mindful that I often do and think automatically which can be an obstacle to doing Your will and the need to periodically examine my habitual ways of acting and thinking to see if they are consistent with Your ways.
I ask this of You who lives and reigns with Jesus and the Holy Spirit, one God, forever. Amen.
Operatio: Reflect on the “habits of thoughts and routines of work” - Are any that need to be modified or changed? Pray for the grace to be open to new ways of work and thinking which can draw me closer to the Lord.
