Lectio: Mt 5.38-42
Meditatio: “You have heard it said, ‘An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth.’ But I say to you, offer no resistance to one who is evil. When someone strikes you on your right cheek, turn the other one to him as well.” Mt 5. 38-39
Oratio: O God, Jesus instructed His followers on how to deal with those who have injured you. He did away with the a proportionate response and urged that no response be made to the offender. Pray to refrain from revenge when wrongly hurt for a higher good. And you will have put Jesus’ instruction into practice.
I ask this and all things in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with You
and the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever.
Contemplatio: spend some time in silence & meditate on the selected passage and hear what God is saying to you.
Operatio: reflect: "eye for....a tooth for....no resistance”; Jesses taught about retaliation and the bottom line was to offer none; and that will prevent a cycle of revenge. Seek the grace of forbearance, i.e. to refrain from revenge for a higher good such as love or peace; and God will be greatly pleased for He loves a peacemaker.
