Lectio: 8.03.13
Lk 12.13-21
Meditatio: “and I shall say to myself, ‘Now, as for you, you have so many good things stored up for many years, rests, eat, drink and be merry’.” Lk 12.19
Oratio: O God, You are the ultimate source of all good thing - yet we forget who and why we are given gifts.
I remember Jesus told a parable about a rich farmer who had a bountiful harvest and all the farmer was concerned about was himself and he worshiped his possessions as a substitute for worshiping You - how tragic and shortsighted!
Grant that I may be ever mindful of You who are the source of all gifts and to share with others as You intended and avoid greed which can and does become a source of idolatry if left unchecked. I ask all these things through Jesus Christ who lives and reigns with You, and the Holy Spirit. One God, forever and ever.
Contemplatio: spend some time in silence and meditate on the selected passage and hear what God is saying to you.
Operatio: reflect on "eat, drink and be merry;” the motto of hedonism; the epitome of selfishness; a stark display of ingratitude; in prayer thank God for the many gifts He has and continues to shower upon me and especially the gift of life as His child through baptism..
