Lectio - Mt 14.1-12

Meditatio: “The king ( Herod) was distressed but because of his oath and the guests who were present, he ordered that it (John the Baptist head on a platter) be given.” Mt 14.9

Oratio: "O God, You want us to keep our promises but only if they do not cause harm to others.

I remember King Herod mistakenly thought he had to keep have John the Baptist beheaded because he gave an oath to Herodias’ daughter that she could have whatever she asked for.

Grant that I may be a person of integrity and act in concert with the good of others.

I ask this of You, who lives and reigns with Jesus and the Holy Spirit, one God, forever. Amen.”

Contemplatio: Keep silence and remain in recollection for a few minutes.

Operatio: Today, I will reflect and see if I say “Yes” when I mean “Yes” and “No” when I mean “No” keeping in mind the good of others in my decisions.

Tomorrow’s reading - Lk 12.13-21
