11.28.14

Lectio: Lk 21.34-36

Meditatio: "Beware that your hearts do not become drowsy from carousing and drunkenness and the anxieties of daily life, and that day catch you by surprise.” Lk 21.34

Oratio: O God, You know the things of this world can so imbibe us that we forget why we are here and where we are going.

I remember Jesus warned His followers about becoming drowsy from among other things the anxieties of daily life for He knew that our self centeredness would prevent us from being vigilant and steeped in the way of other-centeredness; that is selfless love, and we would not be ready when the Lord comes, which would be a spiritual disaster.. In prayer seek and follow the way of love so that whenever Jesus comes, at the end of time or at the end of my life time, I will be ready to follow Him to the Kingdom.

I ask this and all things in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with You
and the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever.

Contemplatio: spend some time in silence and meditate on the selected passage and hear what
God is saying to you.

Operatio: reflect: "drowsy...anxieties...day.....surprise”; Jesus warned us in effect to keep our eyes on what faith requires. Seek the grace to overcome spiritual bloat whose root cause is self-centeredness by being other-centered so that the allure of this wold will not sedate us and we will be doing what we ought when the day of the Lord arrives for us.

Tomorrow's reading:Mk 13.33-37
