6/17/12 Lectio: 1 Kgs 21.1-16 Medtitatio: "Two scoundrels came in and confronted him with the accusation, ‘Naboth has cursed God and king,’ And they led him out of the city and stoned him to death.” I kgs 21.13 Oratio:"O God, You know us and our capacity for depravity, yet you are patient with us. I remember Naboth was falsely accused and stoned to death so that King Ahab’s desire for Naboth’s land could be satisfied - how inhumane! Grant that I may have the grace of detachment from material things so that greed may not take hold of me and my judgments. I ask this of You, who lives and reigns with Jesus and the Holy Spirit, one God, forever. Amen.” Contemplatio: Keep silence and remain in recollection for a few minutes. Operatio: Reflect on "greed”; desire for things that are not needed; desire for superabundance; a willingness to do what ever is necessary to satisfy one’s desires; in prayer ask for the grace of detachment from things of this world and only attached to things of the next. 6/03/12 Lectio: 2 Pt 1.2-7 Medtitatio: “may grace and peace be yours in abundance through the knowledge of God and Jesus our Lord.” 2 Pt 1.2 Oratio:"O God, how wonderful and kind You are to us! I remember Peter told us that grace and peace are ours through Your Son. Grant that I may live as Your Son desires so that in my knowing Him, I will love Him, and in loving Him I will serve Him and Your gifts of grace and peace will be mind. I ask this of You, who lives and reigns with Jesus and the Holy Spirit, one God, forever. Amen.” Contemplatio: Keep silence and remain in recollection for a few minutes. Operatio: Reflect on "grace”; God’s help, God’s favor; without which one can do nothing of merit; in prayer thank God for His benevolence and ask for the grace to seek after things of God’s world first and to do my part in establishing peace in the world I touch. 6/02/12 Lectio: Dt 4.32-24, 39-40 Medtitatio: “This is why you must know, and fix in your heart, that the Lord is God in heaven above and on earth below, and that there is no other.” Dt 4.39 Oratio:"O God, You know that left to our own we would not easily find You - so You intervened in our history. I remember Moses enjoined on Your chosen people to fix their hearts on the great things You did for them and know that You are God and there is no other. Grant that I may be ever grateful for the great things You continuously do for us so that we would know and love You and especially for the gift of Your Son in the Eucharist. I ask this of You, who lives and reigns with Jesus and the Holy Spirit, one God, forever. Amen.” Contemplatio: Keep silence and remain in recollection for a few minutes. Operatio: Reflect on "fix in your heart”; treasure; defines who you are; your orientation; in prayer thank God for making Himself easily known so that we can give Him the praise and worship and love which He desires and deserves and then live the life that He wants of us. 6/01/12 Lectio: Jude 17.20b-25 Medtitatio: “...pray in the holy Spirit.” Jude 20b Oratio:"O God, You know we do not know how to really pray for we are finite and You are infinite. I remember Jude told us how - he exhorted us to pray in the holy Spirit. Grant that I may be open to the Holy Spirit’s presence in my life and allow Him to teach me how to pray. I ask this of You, who lives and reigns with Jesus and the Holy Spirit, one God, forever. Amen.” Contemplatio: Keep silence and remain in recollection for a few minutes. Operatio: Reflect on "pray"; lifting up your heart and mind to God; the Holy Spirit - God’s presence in the world; teaches if we allow Him. In prayer ask for the grace to docile to the promptings of the Holy Spirit so as to pray as I ought. Tomorrow’s reading: Rom 8.14-17
