6.15.13 Lk 7.36-8.3                                  

Meditatio:" but he said to the woman, 'Your faith has saved you; go. In peace." Lk 7.50

Oratio: "O God, You so much want all to be with You and You require so little of us.

I remember Your Son forgave a woman who was a great sinner because she turned to Him with faith and tears!

Grant that I may with God's grace remain steadfast in my faith and show it by living in accord with the great Law of Love and I know in the end You will claim me as Your own.

Contemplatio: Keep silence and remain in recollection for a few minutes.

Operatio:"reflect on "faith"; assent of the will; a confident hope in things not seen that they will be for we have Jesus' word for it; in prayer seek the grace of a steadfast faith; a faith that expresses itself in selfless love; knowing as our late Pope John Paul wrote that even a tear on the cheek of a harden and dying sinner may well be a sign that said person has repented and is saved.

Lectio: Mt 5:38-42

Meditatio: "You have heard it said, 'An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth. But I say to you offer no resistance to one who is evil." Mt 5.38-39a


Oratio: "O God, You know our judgment is poor and especially in redressing grievances.
I remember Your Son preached that the law of Talion should not be our standard but the law of forbearance should govern when we are oppressed.
Grant that I may have the wisdom to realize that I am capable of meeting out justice and allow You, who are the Just Judge, to do so and seek the grace to forbear when a wrong is done against me.
I ask all things in Jesus name who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God forever and ever. Amen"

Contemplatio: Spend a few moments in silent meditation.

Operatio: reflect "eye for an eye"; a proportionate response to a personal injury, but this often was not and the other party would respond raising the injury; in prayer seek the grace and virtue of forbearance for that is the best way to defuse a situation and it is Jesus' way.

 Meditatio:" But I say to you, love your enemies, and pray for those who persecute you." Mt 5.44

 Oratio: "O God, You so much want us to imitate You!
 
 I remember Your Son urged us to love our enemies for You love the good and the bad- what a challenge! What a world it would be if all acted as Your children!

 Grant that I may be the child You want me to be and I will with Your grace and my accepting it.
I ask these things in Jesus name who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, forever, and ever. Amen

 Operatio:"reflect on "love"; seeks the good of the other for the other's sake and not for what you get out of it; selfless in reaching out to others; in prayer seek the grace to truly love others friend or foe - for that is what Jesus does.

Lectio: Mt 6:1-6, 16-18

Meditatio:" Take  care not to perform righteous deeds in order that people may see them; otherwise you will have no recompense from your Heavenly Father." Mt 6.1

Oratio: "O God, You want us to be good but for the right reasons.

I remember Your Son declared that we should pray, give alms and fast but we should do these things in private and not for acclaim, and we will then have our recompense from His Heavenly Father and ours.

Grant that I perform the ascetical  practices to honor God and to make some reparations for my actions but always in a way that is not showy for then these acts will be acceptable to God and efficacious.

Contemplatio: spend a few minutes in silence and contemplate the passage selected and see its import for you.

Operatio: reflect on "perform"; to do; to carry out: give alms discretely, pray in your room; fast without an outward sign; these are the ways we are to perform the ascetical practices; in prayer seek the grace to perform them accordingly.

Meditatio: "Your Father knows what you need before you ask him. 'This is how you are to pray:"
Mt 6:8b-9a

Oratio: "O God, You want us to seek You and ask of You our needs.

I remember Jesus told us that You know our needs before we ask and He then went on to tell us how to pray by giving us the Our Father.

Grant that I may pray as Jesus taught us and seek the grace to do the Father's will.

I ask these things through our Lord Jesus Christ who lives and reigns with the Father and the Hol Spirit, one God, forever and ever. Amen,

Contemplation: spend a few moments in silence and contemplate the passage selected and see its meaning for you.

Operatio: reflect on "how to pray"; first acknowledge to whom you are praying; pray that God's will be done and His kingdom prevail on earth, seek our daily needs - especially the Eucharist, forgive others and seek God's forgiveness for one's sins, and seek Help to avoid the near occasions of sin - all of which are part of Our Father - so look no further for the words for your prayer.

Meditatio: "For where your treasure is, there also will your heart be." Mt 6:21

Oratio: "O God, You know how material things attract us while spiritual things are often furtherest from  our minds.

I remember Your Son warned us about the treasure we seek for that is where our heart is and such seeking may cause to be in the dark as to spiritual matters to our great loss.

Grant that I may focus on the spiritual and build up a treasure that will enable me to flourish in the hereafter

Contemplatio:  spend a few moments in silence and ponder the passage selected and how it should apply to you.

Operatio:  reflect on "treasure is"; that which attracts you and which you cherish; pray that your heart will always cherish that which is of God so your heart will be in the right place - now and forever.

Oratio: "O God, only one thing You ask that You are our heart's desire.

I remember Jesus declared we could not serve You and mammon.

Grant that I may keep my focus right and always have You in my sight and to serve You as I ought .

I ask these things in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, who live and reign God, forever and ever. Amen.

Operatio: reflect on "mammon;" Aramaic meaning property or wealth; where our focus is, so will are efforts be and the choice is clear - God or money;  in prayer seek the grace to keep a proper focus with God our primary goal and the for the grace to serve him and then He can do with us as He will.

Meditatio: " Then he said to them, 'But who do you say that I am?'

Oratio: "O God, You know how important it is for us to know You.

I remember that your Son asked this basic question of His disciples for He knew if they did not know Him they would not love Him nor do His will.

Grant that I may ever love and serve You and do Your will for therein lies my completeness.

I ask these and all things through our Lord Jesus Christ, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God forever and ever. Amen.

Contemplatio:  spend a fewi minutes in silence and meditate on the meaning of the passage selected and what it prompts me to do.

Operatio: reflect "who ... I am"; in the question is major part of the answer    
for "I am" is the name God gave when Moses asked Him who He is. For me Jesus is my God and Savior and most glorious for me my brother through Baptism!

Meditatio:  "When the time arrived for Elizabeth to have her child she gave birth to a son." Lk 1:57

Oratio: "O God, You are marvelous and You do marvelous things for our edification.
I remember when John the Baptist was born and his father gave him the name of John which no one in the clan had, he regained his speech a d all marveled at this and so they should.
Grant that I may be ever mindful of the many wonders which You continue to display for us and rejoice and believe.
I ask all these things in Jesus' name who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever. Amen.

Meditatio:"Let your 'Yes' mean 'Yes', and your 'No' mean 'No.' Anything more is from the evil one."  Mt 5:37

Oratio:"O God, You want all to be like you! You want all to be persons of integrity!

I remember Your Son made this clear when He proclaimed that our 'Yes' and our ‘No’, means just that.

Grant that I may be a person who means what I say and not devious

Operatio: reflect on "yes...no": simple declarative statements; never misleading; in prayer seek the grace of integrity and always strive to be honest and open in all I say.

Meditatio: "But I say to you, whoever is angry with his brother will be liable to judgment, and whoever says to his brother, 'Raqa,' will be answerable to the Sanhedrin, and whoever says to his brother, 'You  fool,' will be liable to fiery Ghenna." Mt 5.22

Oratio: "O God, You so desire that siblings abide in peace.
I remember that Your Son made it clear when He warned against being angry, name calling, and declaring your sibling a fool that a heavier price will be paid as you continue to offend your sibling.
Grant that I may always treat my brothers and sister with respect including my siblings in Christ, for that is minimum for keeping the peace and we should do so much more.

I ask these and all things through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with the Father and the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever.

Contemplatio: Keep silence and remain in recollection for a few minutes.

Operatio: reflect on "Raqa"; Aramaic word that means blockhead or imbecile; on its face such a pejorative word is so hurtful, but we have many English words that are hurtful, too.  In prayer seek the grace to be ever mindful that words can hurt and carefully choose words especially when anger is upon you so that you are an instrument of peace and not of ferment for that is how Jesus wants us to be.

6.13.13 Mt 5:27-32

Meditatio: "but I say to you, everyone who looks with lust has already committed adultery with her in his heart." Mt 5:28

Oratio: O God, you want us to be pure as You are pure.
I remember Jesus declared we must be pure in thought and not just in actions, for he made lust for a woman equal to adultery!

Grant that I may always have control of my eyes and praise The Lord for the beauty of His creation when I see a beautiful woman thereby turning a temptation into an opportunity for grace.

Operatio: reflect on "lust"; desire for whom you are not married; one of the seven capital sins because it is a major reason we commit sin; in prayer ask for the grace to reflect on what attracts me and have my intellect dictate my response and not my emotions; knowing that Jesus said that the pure of heart will see God -our ultimate Good!

Meditatio:" Do not think I have come to abolish the law or the prophets. I have come not to abolish but to fulfill it." Mt 5.17

Oratio: "O God, Your ways are the best ways and You have made them known.

I remember Your Son declared that He did not come to do away with Your decrees
and He gave us an easy way to fulfill all that You revealed - the Great Law of Love!

Grant that I may abide in love.

Contemplatio: Keep silence and remain in recollection for a few minutes.

 Operatio: reflect on "abolish ...fulfill;" do away with; replace completely; Jesus taught and we need to comply with all the laws and the prophets; ask for the grace to love always and then I will be doing  what God wants and I will abide in God and God in me for God is love.

Meditatio:" You are the salt of the earth...You are the light of the world." Mt 13a,14a

Oratio: " O God, You know our need for guidance.

I remember Your Son in His Sermon on the Mount called on His followers to be salt and light for others.

Grant that I may do as Jesus instructed and live my life in such a way that it will be a source of encouragement for others.

Operatio: "reflect on the similes of 'salt' and 'light';  salt-a source of flavor; light - needed to see;  as disciples of Jesus we are called upon to be a source that shows forth Jesus alive in our hearts and at work through us for the good if others; in prayer seek the grace to not only reflect Jesus in our lives but to allow Him to use us as His instrument.

Meditatio: "When he [Jesus] saw the crowds, he went up the mountain, and after he sat down, his disciples came to him. He began teaching them, saying” Mk 5. 1-2

Oratio: "O God, Your Son made it quite clear as to what we should do if we wish to achieve eternal life.

I remember at the very beginning of His public ministry he first topic He preached not only to His disciples but to the large crowd that was following Him - the Beatitudes.

Grant that we may strive to live in accord with the Beatitudes as they are the framework, or Magna Charta for right living.

I ask these and all things through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with the Father and the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever.

Contemplatio: Keep silence and remain in recollection for a few minutes.

Operatio:  " reflect on"Jesus...teaching" ; Jesus announces the Beatitudes as He began His famous sermon on the mount; in prayer ask for the grace to live by the Beatitudes knowing it is a matter of having the right attitude towards issues of self and others.

Meditatio: "He [Jesus] stepped forward and touched the coffin; at this the coffin bearers halted, and he said, " Young man, I tell you, arise! Lk 7:14

Oratio: "O God, You made it so clear that Jesus was to believed. I remember He performed many miracles during His public ministry but none as awesome as raising the son of the widow of Nain from the dead in front of two large crowds!

Grant that we may always be grateful for the signs that we were given that Jesus was from You and we are to listen to Him and follow His teachings

I ask these and all things through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with the Father and the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever.

Contemplatio: Keep silence and remain in recollection for a few minutes.

Operatio:  " reflect on"young man...arise!" ; Jesus command to the dead man; and the dead son of the widow of Nain had his life restored; how powerful are Jesus' words! In prayer thank Jesus for making it so evident that we should believe in Him, and put His words into practice by living in accord with the great law of love.

Meditatio: "and when he [Jesus] was twelve years old, they went up according to the festival custom.” Lk 2. 42

Oratio: "O God, how You loved the Jewish people!            

I remember Your Son and His mother and Joseph went up every year to celebrate the Passover - a sign of great devotion of a Jewish believer.     

Grant that I may be ever mindful of Your love for us and the sign You give us of that love - Your Son in the Eucharist.

I ask these and all things through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with the Father and the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever.

Contemplatio: Keep silence and remain in recollection for a few minutes.

Operatio: reflect on "went...festival custom”; pilgrimage to Jerusalem; an annual requitement for devout Jews; Jesus and His parents went up every year - a sign of their great devotion to the tenets of Judaism. In prayer may I go up at least weekly to church and receive the Eucharist which is a sign of God’s great love of us - for it is His Son that He gives us; and then become what we eat - Eucharist for others.

  6/06/13: Lk 15.3-7   

Meditatio: "I tell you, in just the same way there will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous people who have no need for repentance.”
 Lk 15.7       

Oratio: "O God, how You love each and every one of us!

I remember Your Son called You the Good Shepherd and as a Good Shepherd You will always search and find the stray and bring them back to You.     

Grant that I may be ever mindful of my weaknesses and be always mindful and open  to You and Your care for me.

I ask these and all things through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with the Father and the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever.

Contemplatio: Keep silence and remain in recollection for a few minutes.

Operatio: reflect on "joy...one sinner...than ninety-nine”; this parable is not about the 99 but about the one who strayed; it tells of just how much God loves each and every one of us - no matter how far we stray from the right path; it is a source of great comfort for each and every one of us knowing that when we are found not only it is a great joy for us but a great joy for God.

Meditatio: “When they rise from the dead, they neither marry nor are given in marriage, but they are like angels in heaven.” Mk 12. 25

Oratio: “O God, You have wonderfully provided for us in this life with the institution of marriage for the good of the couple and for the good of children.

I remember that Jesus declared that in heaven marriage is no longer but that You have provided for our good for we will live on like angels who are pure spirit and who have pure love beyond our comprehension!

Grant that I may always revere the sacredness of marriage in the here and the now and look  forward ot the gift of angelic love in the next.

 I ask these and all things through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with the  Father and the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever.

Operatio: reflect on "rise... neither marry;” marriage is an earthly institution, perfect love makes it a joy; in heaven we will enjoy perfect love for we will love as angels do; in prayer thank our God for so wonderfully providing for us now and forever and strive to love others in this life for their good and not for what we get out of is for therein lies selfless love.

Meditatio: “They [the religious elite] sent some Pharisees and Herodians ot him [Jesus] to ensnare him in speech.” Mk 12.13

Oratio: “O God, how perverse we can be!                                  

I remember the religious elite tried to trap Jesus about taxes thinking that no matter what He answered He would be trouble either with the Romans or with the people - how sad for them! How tragic for the people!

Grant that I may have the trust of a child in all that You do knowing that You are my heavenly Father who loves me.\

 I ask these and all things through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with the  Father and the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever.

 Contemplatio: Keep silence and remain in recollection for a few minutes.

Operatio: reflect on "ensnare...speech”; to trap; to put one on the horns of a delemna;  a trick question with the hope that the answer gets the responder in trouble; in prayer seek to be open and honest in questions posed to others so that answer sought is to simply to learn the truth for my good or for the good of the other.

Meditatio: “They [the religious elite] were ready to arrest him [Jesus], but they feared the crowd, for they realized that he had addressed the parable to them. So they left him and went away.” Mk 12. 12

Oratio: “O God, You guide us in marvelous ways to our eternal home.

I remember Your Son spoke in parables so that His audience would have to think of the message and apply it without being publically condemned for their wrongheaded actions.

Grant that I may read the parables of Scripture as teaching stories and look for the message and then apply it to my life for they are meant to provide sure guidance to eternal life.

 I ask these and all things through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with the  Father and the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever.

 Contemplatio: Keep silence and remain in recollection for a few minutes.

Operatio: reflect on "parable”; a teaching story, message is not in the surface line of the story but in its underlying meaning; designed to make us think to discover the massage but when found, provides solid guidance; in prayer seek the grace to apply the message of the parables to my life.

Meditatio: “Then taking  the five loaves and the two fish, and looking up to heaven, he said the blessing over them, broke them, and gave them to the disciples to set before the crowd.” Lk 9.16

Oratio: “O God, how marvelous are Your ways!

I remember Your Son responded to the hunger of the crowd by feeding them with five loaves and two fish.

Grant that I may ever rejoice for Jesus feeds us each day with His very self in the Eucharist.

 I ask these and all things through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with the  Father and the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever.

 Contemplatio: Keep silence and remain in recollection for a few minutes.

Operatio: reflect on "taking... blessing...broke.... gave”; Luke’s  action words in the miracle of the loaves and fishes; These are the same action words that Jesus used in instituting the Eucharist; in prayer may I receive the Eucharist often and become what I eat - Christ for others; and then allow Christ to use me to reach out to others so that they, too, may be fed by the miracle of His love.
