8..25.14

Lectio::  Mt 23..23-26

Meditatio: "Woe to you, Scribes and Pharisees, you hypocrites. You pay tithes of mint and dill and cummin, and have neglected the weightier things of the law: judgment and mercy and fidelity. [But] these you should have done, without neglecting the others.” Mt 23.23

Oratio: O God, how You want Your religious leaders to give a balanced approached as to Your desires to the people they aerve..

I remember Jesus lambasted the Scribes and the Pharisees because they emphasized tithes while neglecting mercy and faithfulness. In prayer seek the grace to contribute to the support of the church and the grace to know that is only a part of belonging to Church and that the practice of the faith is so much more important.

Contemplatio: spend some time in silence and meditate on the selected passage and hear what
God is saying to you.

Operatio:  reflect "Woe ....pay tithes....neglected....mercy”; the Scribes and Pharisees were more interested in money and power than in the right practice of religion and failed to instill mercy and fidelity as key virtues of its practice. In prayer seek the grace to have a well balanced approach to religion and knowing  money is needed to support its material operations and that it also requires mercy towards others and fidelity to its tenets; and God will pleased with our balanced approached.

Tomorrow's reading:  Mt 23..27-32
