8..30.14

Lectio: :  Mt 16.21-27

Meditatio: "What profit would there be for one to gain the whole world and forfeit his life? Or what can one give in exchange for his life?” Mt 16.26
Oratio: O God, You know the allure that earthly riches have for us and You did not want us unthinking to be enticed by them.

I remember Jesus sounded the alarm for all in this matter by proclaiming very clearly: ‘ what does ir profit to gain the whole world and lose your life!’ And we all know the answer - Nothing is more precious than eternal life with the Lord. In prayer seek the grace to use the things of this earthy wisely and avoid making things - gods! By using thing as God intended them to be used, we will be good stewards of His gifts and we will be welcomed by Him into eternal life

Contemplatio: spend some time in silence and meditate on the selected passage and hear what
God is saying to you.

Operatio:  reflect: “profit....gain....world....forfeit ....life”; from a human standpoint wealth is great and to be sought after no matter the means; from God’s view wealth is a means to aid us and others on the journey to heaven. Wealth used wisely is good; used wrongly leads to forfeit one’s eternal life in heaven. The choice is obvious. Seek the grace to avoid undue attraction to material things and the grace to use them as means to help you and others on the journey to heaven and all will be profit in the end.

Tomorrow's reading: Lk 4.38-44
