5/30/13 Lk 1.39-56
Meditatio: “Mary remained with her [Elizabeth] about three months and then returned home.” Lk 1.56
Oratio: “O God, You know our need for good example to guide us on the right path and You gave us the best role model in Mary.
I remember Mary didn’t just visit Elizabeth in her pregnancy; but stayed and helped her - for three months! How generous! How caring!
Grant that I may imitate Mary in her generosity, her love and her trust so that my life may also magnify that You are at work through me.
I ask these and all things through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with the Father and the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever.
Contemplatio: Keep silence and remain in recollection for a few minutes.
Operatio: reflect on "Most blessed...fruit of your womb”; Elizabeth’s greeting to Mary; Mary was pregnant with Jesus; St. Augustine declared that Mary was more Blessed for believing what God had said to her would be so if she said “Yes!” than for her conceiving and thus Mary is a role model for us - a role model of trust and she did so out of love and so we can imitate her in that as well.
