9.29.14

Lectio  Lk 9.51-56

Meditatio: "When the disciples James and John saw this they asked,’ Lord, do you want us to call down fire from heaven to consume them?” Jesus turned and rebuked them.” Lk 9.54-55

Oratio: O God, You do not want us to retaliate when we are offended.

I remember Jesus rebuked His disciples who wanted to call fire from heaven to consume a village because they would not welcome Jesus. In prayer seek to always remember that vengeance is the Lord’s and mercy is what we are called to show others who harm us.

I ask this and all things in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with You
and the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever.

Contemplatio: spend some time in silence and meditate on the selected passage and hear what
God is saying to you.

Operatio: reflect: "call...fire....consume them...rebuked”; James’ and John’s response to an unwelcoming village, was to destroy them; Jesus rebuke of them showed that is not His way nor should it be our way. In prayer seek to treat others as we wish to be treated and in the offensive treatment by others, we certainly will have forbearance and Jesus will be pleased.

Tomorrow's reading: Lk 9.57-62
