6.15.14

Lectio:   Mt 5.38-42

Meditatio: “You have heard that it was said, ‘An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth.’ But I say to you offer no resistance to one who is evil.” Mt 5.38-39a

Oratio: O God, You know how devastating vengeance is!

I remember You Son specifically mentioned the Law of Talion and told His disciples it is not to govern. Rather all should take steps to diffuse hurtful situations by not striking back and by doing something positive. In prayer seek the grace to turn the other cheek, to settle before going to court, to go the extra mile so that vengeance will not prevail for vengeance is mine, says the Lord.

Contemplatio: spend some time in silence and meditate on the selected passage and hear what
God is saying to you.

Operatio: reflect: "eye for an eye...offer no resistance” ; an eye for an eye is at the heart of vengeance but offering no resistance, being a pacifist,  is at the heart of Jesus message; it is hard to do at times but if we do, the peace of Christ will then prevail. Seek the grace of a being a pacifist so that our ways will give Him greater honor and glory.

 Tomorrow’s reading: Mt 5. 43-48
