6.17.14

Lectio:   Mt 6.16, 16-18

Meditatio: “[But] take care not to perform righteous deeds in order that people may see them; otherwise you will have no recompense from your heavenly Father.” Mt 6.6

Oratio: O God, You want us to do the right thing for the right reasons.

I remember Jesus declared that when we fast, give alms, or pray, we should do it for You alone and not for show or for praise. In prayer seek the grace to perform the ascetical practices routinely as part of our spirituality but do it for God alone for that is how He wants us to do them.

Contemplatio: spend some time in silence and meditate on the selected passage and hear what
God is saying to you.

Operatio: reflect: "not perform...may see them” ; the purpose of the ascetical practices is to please God and to help us to become better children of God; in prayer seek the grace to pray, fast and give alms  to please God and not for praise and we will be greatly rewarded.

Tomorrow’s reading: Mt 6.7-15
