Lectio: Mt 12.38-42
Meditatio: “He said to them in reply, ‘An evil and unfaithful generation seeks a sign, but no sign will be given it except the sign of Jonah, the prophet’.” Mt 12.39
Oratio: O God, Your Son worked many miracles and the religious leaders continued to ask a sign from Him. He then told them the only sign they would get is the sign of Jonah and what a sign that would be. Pray that you will always see in Jesus that He is the resurrection and the life and the truth and the way for that is the sign of Jonah He gave us and we can trust Him.
I ask this and all things in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with You
and the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever.
Contemplatio: spend some time in silence & meditate on the selected passage and hear what God is saying to you.
Operatio: reflect: “evil...unfaithful...seeks...no sign... except... Jonah”; Jonah’s preaching and survival of three days in the belly of the whale would all be present in Jesus for His preaching was greater than Jonah’s and His survival of three days in the tomb was far greater for He also gave to us the gift of resurrected life. Seek the grace to be always faithful to Jesus for there is no other name under the sun through whom we are saved.
