7.31.15

Lectio:  Mt 14.1-2

Meditatio: “The king was distressed, but because of his oaths and the guests who were present, her ordered that it be given.” Mt 14.9

Oratio: O God, You want us to keep our promises but You do not want us to do so went they are made without taking into account the adversities which may result. Pray that you keep the promise you should and refrain from doing so when you should not.

I ask this and all things in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with You.
and the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever.

Contemplatio: spend some time in silence & meditate on the selected passage and hear what  God speaks to you,

Operatio:  reflect: "because...oaths...he ordered”; a promise made should not be kept when it becomes evident that great harm will be caused to others by doing so. Herod had John the Baptist beheaded because he made an oath to Herodias’ daughter. Seek the grace to discern what you are swearing to and keep your oaths which are properly made.

Tomorrow's reading: Jn 6.24-35
