12/12/11

Lectio: Mt 21.28-32

Meditatio: “The man came to the other son and gave the same order. He said in reply, ‘Yes, sir,’ but did not go.” Mt 21.30

Oratio: "O God, You want and You deserve more than lip service from us; You want our hearts.

I remember Jesus told a parable about two sons whose father gave an order to work in the vineyard. The first said ‘No’ but changed his mind later and went. The second said, ‘Yes’ but did not go. Jesus made it clear that the first one did his father’s will.

Grant that I may always not simply profess with my lips that You are the Lord God but do Your will to the best of my ability.

I ask this of You, who lives and reigns with Jesus and the Holy Spirit, one God, forever.
Amen.”

Contemplatio: Keep silence and remain in recollection for a few minutes.

Operatio: Reflect on “lip service” - outward compliance; inward rejection; saying one thing and doing another; dishonest. In prayer seek the grace to give God my heart, my soul, my body and my mind in all things I do or I am asked to do.

Tomorrow’s reading - Lk 7.18b-23
