Lectio: Mk 6.7-13

Meditatio: "They drove out many demons, and they anointed with oil many who were sick and cured them." Mk 6.13

Oratio: "O God, You use physical symbols to show forth Your power and love.

I remember Your Son gave His disciples the power to cure and they did - and they used oil to anoint the sick and the sick were cured!

Grant that I may be always mindful of the sacramental signs that are conduits for Your graces and rejoice that You have made Your favors tangible to us.

I ask these and all things through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with the

Father and the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever.

Contemplatio: Keep silence and remain in recollection for a few minutes.

Operatio: reflect on "anoint"; to put salve, or an oin8tment, or oil on someone’s head, hands; as is done in the sacrament of the sick with the oil of the sick blessed by the bishop at the Holy Thursday Mass; in prayer administer the sacrament of the sick as often as a person needs it and encourage all to call for a priest in the case of serious illness or accident and request the sacrament of the sick for in it the holy oils are used to anoint the forehead and the hands of the sick with a prayer for their physical and spiritual comfort and forgiveness of their sins if they are unable to confess; and if this is their last sacrament, Jesus will be there for them in their dying.
