Lectio :Jn 5.1-6
Meditatio: "therefore, the Jews began to persecute Jesus because he did this [cured a lame man] on a Sabbath." Jn 5.12
Oratio: "O God, You do not want the sinner to perish but to repent and return to You.
I remember Jesus cured a man who could not walk for 38 years on a Sabbath and forgave him his sine and admonished him to sin no more.
Grant that I may be ever grateful for the Sacrament of Reconciliation through which any sins that I have the misfortune to commit, are clearly forgiven and which restores my friendship with You for You are so kind and merciful.
I ask these and all things through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with the
Father and the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever.
Contemplatio: Keep silence and remain in recollection for a few minutes.
Operatio: Reflect on "Sabbath"; a day of strict rest; no work even healing allowed by the Jewish rabbis of Jesus’ time; but Jesus being God was above this law of rest for God continued to work even on the Sabbath and Jesus could do the same. In prayer thank God for the sacrament of Baptism which takes away Original Sin and for the Sacrament of Reconciliation which takes away any sins that we commit after our Baptism and which restores our friendship with God.
