Lectio: Mt 26.14-25,36-38
Meditatio: "and {Judas] said, ‘What are you willing to give me if I hand [Jesus] over to you’?" Mt 26.15
Oratio: "O God, You know that we are too easily led astray by things - especially money.
I remember Judas was willing to hand Jesus over to the religious elite for 30 pieces of silver - it is said that this was the money damages if one’s slave was gored by your ox - how avarice warps our judgement!
Grant that I may be always alert to the temptations which things can play and with God’s grace set their allure aside for things that last - God’s love.
I ask these and all things through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with the
Father and the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever.
Contemplatio: Keep silence and remain in recollection for a few minutes.
Operatio: Reflect on "hand over"; place in the control of another; betrayal; Judas handed Jesus over to the religious elite for 30 pieces of silver - what a tragedy! - a paltry sum for the Priceless One. In prayer thank God for his many graces and especially His grace to see things for what they are and then to opt for the things that last - His Kingship and things of His kingdom!
Tomorrow's reading: Jn 13.1-15
