Lectio Jn 7.40-53
Meditatio: ""Does our law condemn a person before it first hears from him and finds out what he is doing?" Jn 7.51
Oratio: "O God, You alone know our heart without any inquiry.
I remember Nicodemus challenged his fellow Pharisees who wanted to condemn Jesus without first hearing from Him - and sadly, one day they would give Him a hearing but brought false witnesses against Him so as to condemn Him.
Grant that I may always give the other the benefit of the doubt and judge not for judgment belongs to You, O Lord.
I ask these and all things through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with the
Father and the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever.
Contemplatio: Keep silence and remain in recollection for a few minutes.
Operatio: Reflect on "condemn"; a finding of guilt couple with punishment; blasphemy carried with it the death sentence; in prayer thank God for giving us His Son who not forgave those who unjustly condemned Him to death; but who continues to offer eternal life to all who repent and believe in Him.
Tomorrow's reading: :Jn 8.1-11
