9.12.15

Lectio Mk 8.27-35

Meditatio: "And he asked them, ‘But who do you say that I am?’ Peter said to him in reply, ‘You are the Messiah’.” Mk 8.29

Oratio: O God, Jesus revealed His identity to His disciples early in His public Ministry but He wanted them not to broadcast it for He knew the common understanding of the Messiah was that of an earthly one who would overthrow the Romans and establish an earthly kingdom. Pray that you may ever recognize what a person we have in Jesus and rejoice that He is both our God and our Brother who loves us and wants us to be with Him forever.

I ask this and all things in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with.  You.
and the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever.

Contemplatio: spend some time in silence & meditate on the selected passage and hear what  God is
 saying to you.

Operatio: reflect: “who...I am....Peter...Messiah”; Peter inspired by our Heavenly Father replied correctly to Jesus’ question of identity; however, we see that Peter really did not understand His answer for His understanding of the Messiah was as an earthly ruler who certainly would not be rejected by the religious elite and put to death. Seek the grace to be a person who is humble of heart for like Peter, we may make mistakes about our faith, but like Peter, it will not be held against us if we have the mind set of a prophet, which we are called to be by virtue of our Baptism and we are honest and a person of integrity..

Tomorrow's reading:Jn 3.13-17
