8/13/11

Lectio: Mt 15.21-28

“Then he said to her in reply, ‘O woman, great is your faith! Let it be done as you wish.’ And her daughter was healed from that hour.” Mt 15.28

“ O God, even You change Your mind especially when a plea comes from a person of great faith.

I remember Jesus initially refused the request of a Canaanite woman saying that He had come for the House of Israel but because of her great faith as evidenced in her bantering with Jesus about dogs eating scraps, He healed her daughter.

Grant that I may always turn to You in prayer in times of need, even when it appears that the outcome is not what I want knowing that You have the power to change the outcome of all things and You do from time to time.

I ask this of You who lives and reigns with Jesus and the Holy Spirit, one God, forever. Amen.

Operatio: Reflect on “intercessory prayer” - in it we acknowledge our dependence and awareness of God and His power and majesty - He does not need such prayer to know our needs but He delights in hearing our express them and our turning to Him. Do so with confidence knowing He will always answer and knowing that His divine providence, His loving care for us is always there.

Tomorrow’s readings: Lk 1.39-56
