8/14/11

Lectio: Lk 1.39-56

“The Mighty One has done great things for me [Mary] and holy is his name.” Lk 1.49
“ O God, with You nothing is impossible.

I remember not only did Mary conceive by the power of the Holy Spirit but You assumed her body and soul into heaven after her earthly life had ended doing for her what You did for Your Son.

Grant that I may always praise You for Your greatness and power and give You the worship which belongs only to You.

I ask this of You who lives and reigns with Jesus and the Holy Spirit, one God, forever. Amen.

Operatio: Reflect on “Mary’s Assumption” - not recorded in the Bible; a belief of the early church; infallibly proclaimed by Pope Pius XII in 1950; a foreshadowing of our own resurrection; a blessing that none of us deserves but which God gives to us out of His love for us. In prayer thank God for giving us Mary as our mother in grace and ask our Heavenly Mother to help us in this life and bring us one day home to her and to her Son.

Tomorrow’s readings: Mt 19-23-30
