8/29/11

Lectio: Lk 4.31-37

“They were all amazed and said to one another, ‘What is there about his word? For with authority and power he commands the unclean spirits, and they come out’.” Lk 4. 36

“ O God, You spoke and the world came into being - and You gave Your Son similar power.

I remember when Jesus spoke, even the demons obeyed Him and they came out of those they had possessed.

Grant that I may always turn to You and Your Son with confidence knowing that all things are subject to Your power.

I ask this of You who lives and reigns with Jesus and the Holy Spirit, one God, forever. Amen.

Operatio: Reflect on the “Word of God” - Jesus is God’s word incarnate - truth, salvific, powerful. In prayer thank God for revealing His word so clearly through Jesus.

Tomorrow’s readings: Lk 4.31-37

8.30.11

“t sunset, all who had people sick with various diseases, brought them to him. He laid his hands on each of them and cured them." Lk 4.40

"O God, Your great power was manifested by Your Son.

I remember He laid His hands on each of them and cured them.

Grant that I may imitate Him and remember the importance of the individual in ministry.

I ask this of You who lives and reigns with Jesus and the Holy Spirit, one God, forever. Amen.

Operatio: Reflect on "laid his hands on each" - anointing of the sick comes to mind; the importance of touch; compassion; the importance of each person. Resolve to always keep in mind, the individual, and not lose sight of them assembly.

Tomorrow’s reading: Lk 5.1-11

Lectio: Lk 5.1-11

“After he [Jesus] had finished speaking, he said to Simon, ‘Put out into the deep water, and lower your nets for a catch’.” Lk 5.4

“ O God, what power You at times show for those who do Your will.

I remember because Peter obeyed Jesus’ word to go out to deep waters and lower his nets, Peter caught more fish than he ever did - and he caught so much more - he caught the fervor for Jesus and followed Him.

Grant that I may be attentive to what You are asking me for therein lies my destiny.

I ask this of You who lives and reigns with Jesus and the Holy Spirit, one God, forever. Amen.

Operatio: Reflect on the “Put out into deep water” - a saying of John Paul II, What must be done if people are to catch the fervor for the faith that is now on the wane? Pray for the courage to do whatever God is asking of me to do.

Tomorrow’s readings: Lk 5.33-39
