Lectio: Mt 23.13-22

“Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, you hypocrites. You traverse sea and land to make one convert, and when that happens, you make him a child of Gehenna twice as much as yourselves.” Mt 23.15

“ O God, Your recorded in Scripture are not always easy to understand.

I remember Jesus called the Scribes and Pharisees hypocrites because they made converts and then made them children of Gehenna worse than themselves - what did they do to deserve being call hypocrites?

Grant that I may approach Your Word with an openness and humility knowing I may not understand all that is written but since it Your Word, to allow it to sink him.

I ask this of You who lives and reigns with Jesus and the Holy Spirit, one God, forever. Amen.

Operatio: Reflect on meditating on God’s Word - Help for understanding it may be found in the annotations to the text found in most Bibles. Resolve to read them before praying over the texts.

Tomorrow’s readings: Mt 23.23-26
