12.20.14

 Lectio: Lk 1.26-38

Meditatio: "And the angel said to her in reply,’The holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. Therefore, the child to be born will be called holy, the Son of God’.” Lk 1.35

Oratio: O God, You ways are not our ways nor could they be; and You bring about marvelous results for our good.

I remember when Mary asked how she could conceive a child since she had no relations with a man;  the angel replied that it would be through the Holy Spirit; and Gabriel’s answer must have seemed incomprehensible to Mary; but when she said ‘Yes’, it came to be and Jesus was conceived who ended lasting death for us. In prayer thank Mary for her role in salvation history for it is immeasurable.

I ask this and all things in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with You
and the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever.

Contemplatio: spend some time in silence and meditate on the selected passage and hear what
 God is saying to you.

Operatio: reflect:"Spirit....upon you..overshadow you...Son of God”; The Incarnation could not have taken place without Mary’s consent; and she gave it not because she understood how, but that she was assured that nothing is impossible with God. Seek the grace to place my total trust in the Lord for He can and does accomplish great things for us for our good or for the good of others as a pure gift.

Tomorrow's reading: Lk 1.46-56
